Bank of Wallowa County - Home Office

Photo of main lobby viewed from the office mezzanineStairway from the office mezzanine looking down toward the bank's main lobby. The little girl holding the balloon in the "vanishing point" of the stairs in this picture is my daughter! The same girl has grown into a young woman and is also pictured on the home page of this Website!

The structure is almost entirely of heavy timber beams, cluster columns, and rustic "log home" style exterior. The interior woodwork (as seen in the picture) was crafted by local carpenter artisans! The building blends well with the Wallowa County country town of Joseph, Oregon, which is on the only route into the mountain resort area of Wallowa Lake, sometimes called the "Little Swiss Alps"! Much of the design and detail concept, and all of the construction drawings were prepared by George Harlan in 1984. In recent years, the occupancy was converted to fine retail spaces.
